EU-wide networking of innovation ecosystems for personalised healthcare

PRECISEU - PeRsonalised medicine Empowerment Connecting Innovation ecoSystems across EUrope

The PRECISEU project, funded by Horizon Europe, aims to connect innovation ecosystems across Europe to promote a more efficient development towards personalised healthcare. The aim is to transfer best practices and solutions from region to region and to disseminate technology-based health innovations based on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and health data across Europe.

The results of the project are intended to increase the efficiency of regional innovation ecosystems by promoting cooperation and the exchange of shared resources in strategically important areas of regional strength and specialisation. This should support the development and implementation of innovative initiatives and contribute to the digital and sustainable transformation of healthcare systems.

The project pursues the following objectives:

  • Accelerate the adoption of personalised medicine (PM) at European level.
  • Reduce fragmentation and inequalities within the EU.
  • Support the implementation of technology-based health innovations in different ecosystems, regardless of their level of innovation, resources, strategies and policies.

Project consortium

The institutions in the PRECISEU consortium are aware of the challenges and barriers to the full integration of personalised medicine (PM) into healthcare systems. Together with key regional stakeholders, they are committed to overcoming these challenges by contributing to the harmonisation of regional, national and EU policies and funding instruments.

The consortium comprises 25 partners from 12 regions spread across 11 Member States, including Germany, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, Lithuania, Sweden, the Netherlands and Greece, as well as one associated HE country, Ukraine. The partners include representatives of regional authorities, health and health technology innovation clusters, research infrastructures, industry players, patient organisations and entrepreneurial networks capable of initiating value-adding collaborations across the European market.

BIOPRO's role in the PRECISEU project

In the PRECISEU project, BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg GmbH is working in particular on a multi-stakeholder infrastructure to enable access to ATMPs in Europe. To this end, the status of the development and production of ATMPs in the EU is being recorded, a multi-stakeholder infrastructure for the development, production and use of ATMPs is being created, access and the growth of an open infrastructure for ATMPs is being enabled and, finally, patient access to ATMPs is being facilitated. We are also involved in facilitating access to the use of health data by mapping and assessing the maturity of the EHDS in Europe and developing guidelines for the initiation of joint interregional projects in personalised medicine. In addition, we are working on the development of a model and roadmap for optimising market introduction and enabling patient access to precision medicine for all.

Thanks to the participation of BioRN Cluster Management GmbH - Life Science Cluster Rhine-Neckar in the PRECISEU project, Baden-Württemberg is represented twice in the project consortium. This will enable Baden-Württemberg to develop further topics in the project, such as capacity building and cultural change for the accelerated introduction of personalised medicine in healthcare systems, the improvement of healthcare provision and the creation of an innovative, collaborative ecosystem. To this end, there will be annual award programmes for best practice examples in the use of health data. BioRN is also involved in reimbursement and procurement models for personalised medicine.
