Baden-Württemberg is the number one health region in Germany

Current projects in the health sector

The healthcare industry is an important economic factor and employment driver for Baden-Württemberg. And the Baden-Württemberg health region has the potential to serve as a model for sustainable development. To ensure that this remains the case, BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg brings its expertise to state, federal or EU-funded projects to advance the transformation of economy and society in the areas of the healthcare industry.

A total of 1,104 companies are involved in research, development and production in various subsectors of the Baden-Württemberg healthcare industry. In 2018, the companies with a total of 95,750 employees generated a taxable turnover of 25.22 billion euros. Typical of Baden-Württemberg in this regard are the medium-sized companies. Baden-Württemberg also benefits from close connections between industry and science and the cutting-edge research being carried out at universities, university hospitals and research institutions.

This potential is always uppermost in our minds when implementing projects such as the 'MDR & IVDR Fast-Track Support BW' programme funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics or overseeing the interministerial Forum Health Region BW, which is run by the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry. We are also particularly committed to start-ups and provide support in the form of initiatives such as the Start-up Compass (updated in April 2020) and the EXI Start-up Voucher for life sciences companies.

Together for a healthier living

The Forum Health Region Baden-Württemberg aims to develop and implement measures in a strategic process with the support of the state government in order to develop Baden-Württemberg to the highest possible level as a healthcare location.

Joining forces

Current environmental and climate-related challenges as well as legal framework conditions call for the the establishment of a sustainable healthcare industry and healthcare system. But why face the challenges alone? BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg, BIOVOX Connect - The Network for Sustainable Medical Technology and Bayern Innovativ have joined forces across federal state borders to form the "Alliance for Sustainable Medical Technology" and are working together to promote the sustainable development of the healthcare sector in Germany.

EU-wide networking of innovation ecosystems for personalised healthcare

The PRECISEU project, funded by Horizon Europe, aims to connect innovation ecosystems across Europe to promote a more efficient development towards personalised healthcare. The aim is to transfer best practices and solutions from region to region and to disseminate technology-based health innovations based on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and health data across Europe.

Transnational networking of innovation ecosystems

Improving health and care in the Alpine region – that is the aim of the HACK-IT-NET project, short for ‘Health And Care Knowledge and Innovation Transfer NETwork’. With the establishment of a multi-stakeholder community in the Alpine region, the competencies of the players in the health and care sector are being pooled to create a forward-looking health and care ecosystem in the Alpine Space.

The BIOPRO Health Team will be happy to answer any questions or suggestions you may have.
