The start of a transnational cooperation for a future of sustainable healthcare

BIOPRO is a sustainability partner in the EU HACK-IT-NET project

Holistic and seamless healthcare for all patients in the Alpine region - that is the aim of the HACK-IT-NET project, short for “Health And Care Knowledge and Innovation Transfer NETwork”. The project, which was launched in July 2024 and which will run for three years, aims to build a multi-stakeholder community in the Alpine region in order to bundle the work of healthcare stakeholders and create a forward-looking healthcare ecosystem in the Alpine region. Among other things, digital tools and pioneering technologies should help to improve care processes. The state agency BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg is one of nine partner organisations from six countries belonging to the Alpine region and will establish the topic of sustainability in the HACK-IT-NET project.

A sustainable and resilient healthcare system requires efficient and patient-oriented care processes. To make this possible, the players in the healthcare system must work together seamlessly. As part of the HACK-IT-NET project - short for “Health And Care Knowledge and Innovation Transfer NETwork” - a transnational multi-stakeholder community is being established in the Alpine region with the help of digital tools and advanced technologies. This network will contribute to strengthening a forward-looking healthcare system and promote the transfer of innovation between actors in the HACK-IT-NET ecosystem and the healthcare sector. The project budget is approximately 2.5 million euros and is 75% of it funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Sustainability for the health ecosystem of the Alpine region

BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg will primarily contribute its expertise in the area of sustainability and transformation of the health ecosystem in the “Impact and Sustainability” workstream and organize events and workshops for knowledge transfer.

Supporting the global sustainability goals

“We are delighted to represent Baden-Württemberg as a project partner in the HACK-IT-NET project and to be able to contribute our expertise in the field of sustainable development in the healthcare industry,” says Dr. Barbara Jonischkeit, Head of Innovation and Communication at BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg. “As part of HACK-IT-NET, we have the opportunity to work with the other project partners to raise awareness of the relevance and necessity of sustainable development in the healthcare sector at a European level, provide impetus and highlight the potential and benefits.”

The project focuses primarily on the areas of “health and well-being” and “industry, innovation and infrastructure”. In addition, there is a continuous exchange with the “EU Strategy for the Alpine Region” (EUSALP for short) during the various project phases of HACK-IT-NET, which ensures the project's contribution to the cross-sectoral EUSALP initiatives. EUSALP is a macro-regional strategy of the European Union that aims to improve cooperation and coordination in the Alpine regions. The strategy was officially launched in 2015 and includes regions from seven countries: five EU Member States (Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Slovenia) and two non-EU Member States (Liechtenstein and Switzerland).
